STAR Skating Program
Overview:
The STAR Skating Program is a prestigious and comprehensive training pathway designed for skaters who have mastered the basics and are ready to advance their skills in figure skating. As a part of Skate Canada's STAR (Skate Canada Test and Assessment Recognition) program, the STAR Skating Program focuses on developing advanced skating techniques, artistry, and performance skills. It is ideal for skaters aiming to pursue competitive figure skating or who wish to achieve high levels of technical and artistic proficiency.
Objectives:
- Advanced Skill Development: Refine and enhance technical skills such as jumps, spins, and footwork to achieve higher levels of proficiency and consistency.
- Artistic Expression: Foster creativity and performance skills to improve the presentation and artistry of skating routines.
- Performance Preparation: Equip skaters with the skills and confidence needed for competitions and performances, including stage presence and program execution.
- Goal Achievement: Provide structured milestones and assessments to help skaters reach their personal and competitive goals.
Program Levels:
The Star Skating Program is divided into several levels, each designed to challenge skaters and help them advance:
- STAR 1-Gold : These levels focus on progressively advanced elements and include both compulsory and free skate components. Each level requires skaters to demonstrate proficiency in specific technical and artistic skills.
- Competitive STAR (Optional): For skaters interested in competing, additional training and coaching are provided to prepare for regional, provincial, and national competitions.
- Adult Skate: This is for previous figure skaters or skaters with more advanced skating skills who are interested in returning to the sport or learning the sport of figure skating. Adults have the option to test, compete, or just skate for fun.
Eligibility:
The STAR Skating Program is intended for skaters who have completed the Learn-to-Skate (CanSkate) program or equivalent and are ready to progress to more advanced techniques. Skaters must have a solid foundation in basic skating skills and be prepared for a more rigorous training regimen.
Requirements:
- Attire: Skaters should wear appropriate skating attire that allows for ease of movement and supports the demands of advanced training. For competition practice, skaters may wear their performance costumes.
- Skates: Well-maintained and properly sharpened figure skates are required. Skaters should ensure their equipment is in top condition to support their advanced training.
